Our annual celebration of the holiday season with the choral chamber ensemble Madrigalia, led by artistic director Cary Ratcliff, with Kevin Nitsch, piano and Joanna Bassett, flute.
Madrigalia’s expansive interpretation of the December holidays includes celebrations both sparkling and thoughtful. These include songs of winter and hope for the new year as well as carols and folk songs sung in German, Spanish, Igbo, Basque, Latin, and Hebrew.
You're invited to hear this music on Live from Hochstein on Wednesday December 13th at 12:10pm, in person* at the Hochstein Performance Hall (50 N. Plymouth Avenue, downtown Rochester) or by listening to the live broadcast on WXXI Classical.
Since 1975, Madrigalia has distinguished itself as one of the finest chamber choirs in Rochester and western New York. The ensemble is known for its quality performances of challenging and wide-ranging repertoire in this golden age of choral music. Madrigalia appointed Cary Ratcliff as Artistic Director in 2014, subsequently producing two recordings, collaborating with area artists, and commissioning and premiering new works.
Live from Hochstein with host Mona Seghatoleslami is a series of midday concerts by some of the finest artists in our area broadcast live from The Hochstein Performance Hall. Each of these free concerts runs from 12:10-12:50 p.m., giving downtown business people, teachers, families, students, and friends an opportunity to enjoy classical music during the day. You can also hear an encore broadcast of Live from Hochstein later the same day at 10 p.m. on WXXI Classical.
* Masks and vaccination are encouraged but not required. Please note that only bottled water is allowed in the newly renovated hall.
