Described as “one of the Rochester area’s unique and notable treasures” (SUNY Brockport’s The Stylus), the RPO Marimba Band was established in 1979 and is comprised of members of the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra’s current percussion section. The RPO Marimba Band performs their own arrangements of Latin, pop, and jazz tunes on a wide array of melodic percussion instruments. The musicians include Andrew Bockman, Anthony Calabrese, Tom Nanni, Kyle Peters, Kristen Shiner McGuire, and Brian Stotz.
You're invited to hear the RPO Marimba Band play a program of all-new arrangements on Live from Hochstein on Wednesday October 27th at 12:10pm, in person* at the Hochstein Performance Hall (50 N. Plymouth Avenue, downtown Rochester) or by listening to the live broadcast on WXXI Classical.
The program for this concert includes the band's arrangements of music by Sting, the Gipsy Kings, renowned percussionist Evelyn Glennie, and Frank Zappa as well as selections from Riverdance, the French film Amelie, and a recording by Harry Belafonte.
Live from Hochstein with host Mona Seghatoleslami is a series of lunchtime concerts by some of the finest artists in our area broadcast live from Hochstein Performance Hall. Each of these free “brown bag” concerts runs from 12:10-12:50 p.m., giving downtown business people, teachers, families, students, and friends an opportunity to enjoy classical music during their lunch hour. You can also hear an encore broadcast of Live from Hochstein later the same day at 10 p.m. on Classical 91.5.
