Wynton Marsalis’ Violin Concerto combines the elements of jazz, blues, and classical music to create something that is uniquely American. (Composer Gunther Schuller would have called it "Third Stream.") Hear it performed by Tai Murray with the Cleveland Orchestra’s Vinay Parameswaran making his Rochester conducting debut.

Sibelius’ Fifth Symphony unspools in lush, romantic harmonies. The symphony underwent extensive revisions by the self-critical composer before it became the beloved masterpiece that is performed today.

WXXI Classical presents the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra’s 2022-2023 season on Mondays at 8 p.m. on Classical 91.5/FM-HD 91.5-1. Brenda Tremblay hosts.

Hear an interview with the artists and WXXI's Julia Figueras.

This concert will be rebroadcast on September 4, 2023 at 8:00 p.m.
