Yom Kippur (יום כיפור “Day of Atonement”) is the holiest day of the Jewish year, and brings the High Holy Days to a close. It is a day set aside to atone for the sins of the past year, and is observed by fasting and prayer. The liturgy contains some of the most ancient prayers and melodies of the Jewish spiritual tradition. Yom Kippur is described in the prayers as “a day of creating love and brotherhood, a day of abandoning jealousy and strife.”

Temple B'rith Kodesh was founded in 1848 as an Orthodox synagogue with 12 members. It is the oldest Jewish congregation and the largest Reform temple in the greater Rochester area.
