RPO's 2021-22 broadcast season begins May 23rd with a blaze of color
Monday nights at 8:00pm, beginning May 23rd we'll hear a program of Higdon, Brahms and Wagner.
“I knew we would be back on stage after a long break of the long darkness. What better to start the program than with a sunrise?” - Andreas Delfs
When Maestro Andreas Delfs conducted his first RPO Philharmonics concert as Music Director for the 2021-22 season, the orchestra offered what critic Daniel Kushner described as “an auspicious, if subtle first performance.” (Read his review here.)
Tune in Monday, May 23rd at 8:00 p.m. to hear Jennifer Higdon’s Pulitzer Prize-winning Violin Concerto, Johannes Brahms’ First Symphony and one of the most beautiful sunrises in classical music, Wagner’s “Dawn & Siegfried’s Rhine Journey,” chosen for its symbolism as much as for its thrilling climax.
The Higdon Violin Concerto is especially exhilarating.
Soloist Benjamin Beilman told WXXI’s Julia Figueras, “I start playing and I don't stop playing. By the end of it, my fingers are on fire.”
Hear from the artists On Record.
The program will repeat Monday, August 22nd.
