Los Angeles based composer Derrick Skye was “in the house” in November 2022 when the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra performed the world premiere of his work commissioned by the RPO as a companion piece to the Brahms Requiem. A Rage of Peace explores themes of motherhood, mentorship, and love for those around you. Brahms’ German Requiem, called a “Human Requiem” by the composer himself, was crafted to comfort the living in the face of mortality. Brahms wrote the piece while grieving the death of his mother.
