Live from Hochstein with host Mona Seghatoleslami is a series of lunchtime concerts by some of the finest artists in our area broadcast live from Hochstein Performance Hall. Each of these free “brown bag” concerts runs from 12:10-12:50 p.m., giving downtown business people, teachers, families, students, and friends an opportunity to enjoy classical music during their lunch hour. You can also hear an encore broadcast of Live from Hochstein later the same day at 10 p.m. on Classical 91.5. March 21st: Superb Strings from Eastman
Featuring Sooah Jung, violin; Noémie Raymond-Friset, cello; and Sungmin Lee, guitar. The program includes selections by Prokofiev, Kreisler, and Piazzolla. These three Eastman Performer’s Certificate students from the Strings, Harp, and Guitar Department are students selected by the faculty to be awarded the Performer’s Certificate, an honors designation for exceptional performance.
March 28th: Melodious Mallets
The RPO Marimba Band was established in 1979 and is comprised of members of the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra’s current percussion section. They specialize in music written and arranged for the melodic percussion instruments and perform on two marimbas, vibraphone, steel drum, drum set, and various percussion instruments.
April 4th: Spring Recess - NO CONCERT
April 11th: Mikhail Kopelman, Stefan Reuss, and Rebecca Penneys
The trio will play selections from their 20th anniversary concert at the Academy of Medicine, including excerpts from Mendelssohn’s Piano Trio No. 1 in D Minor and Beethoven’s “Archduke” Piano Trio.
April 18th?: Hochstein Merit Scholarship Winners
Selected works performed by outstanding Hochstein students who were named winners of the Hochstein Merit Scholarships - pianist Michael Blum and cellist Jacqueline Hager .Michael Blum is a student of Gary Palmer and is a homeschooled senior in Penfield, NY, and Jacqueline Hager is in grade 11 at Brighton High School and is a student of Kathleen Murphy Kemp.
April 25th: The Publick Musick
The period-instrument ensemble Publick Musick will perform one of Mozart’s greatest masterpieces for chamber ensemble, the String Quintet in C Major, K. 515. Publick Musick’s Artistic Directors Boel Gidholm, violin, and Christopher Haritatos, cello, will be joined for this concert by Theresa Salomon, violin; Daniel Elyar, viola; and Alissa Smith, viola.
May 2nd: Antara Winds
The program includes music by Mahler, Ewazen, and Ligeti. Antara Winds is Diane Smith, flute; Judith Ricker, oboe; Margaret Quackenbush, clarinet; Natalya Rose Vrbsky, bassoon; and Nikolette LaBonte, horn.
May 9th: Syncopated Sounds from 1920s Germany
Featuring pianist Tony Caramia. After World War I, American jazz began to migrate to Europe. Berlin and Paris were seized by its exoticism, which proved extremely popular with local audiences and composers alike. This program features jazz-influenced selections from Lothar Perl, Erwin Schulhoff, Louis Gruenberg, and Paul Hindemith.
May 16th: A Springtime Cello-bration
The Eastman Cello Ensemble performs lively classical music celebrating springtime.
