Live from Hochstein with host Mona Seghatoleslami is a series of lunchtime concerts by some of the finest artists in our area broadcast live from Hochstein Performance Hall. Each of these free “brown bag” concerts runs from 12:10-12:50 p.m., giving downtown business people, teachers, families, students, and friends an opportunity to enjoy classical music during their lunch hour. You can also hear an encore broadcast of Live from Hochstein later the same day at 10 p.m. on WXXI Classical 91.5.

March 20: Ekstasis Duo
The Ekstasis Duo – Natasha Farny, cello, and Eliran Avni, piano – performs music of Fauré, Ravel, Debussy, and Milhaud. The American cellist and Israeli pianist first met as students at Juilliard. As a duo, they celebrate masterpieces alongside the secret jewels of lesser-known works.
March 27: Antara Winds
Antara Winds performs music of Rameau/Oubradous and Switzer. Antara Winds is Diane Smith, flute; Judith Ricker, oboe; Margaret Quackenbush, clarinet; Natalya Rose Vrbsky, bassoon; and Nikolette LaBonte, horn.
April 3: Eastman Saxophone Project
The Eastman Saxophone Project performs music of Chabrier, Piazzolla, and Grieg. Founded in 2010, the Eastman Saxophone Project focuses on repertoire for the saxophone, showcasing artistry, creativity, and spontaneous musical communication among the performers.
April 10: Hochstein Merit Scholarship Winners
Featuring Hochstein students who are nominated by their teachers for their outstanding performance ability and selected via audition. Chloe Engin, flute, is a senior at Mendon High School and a student of Diane Smith. Jett Kopalek, violin, is a junior at Rush-Henrietta High School and a student of Eri Noda. Agathya Visveswaran, guitar, is a junior at Brighton High School and a student of John Wiesenthal.
April 17: Spring recess, no concert today
April 24: Telos Trio - Gathering Light
It's spring! Come celebrate with the Telos Trio – Rita George Simmons, flute; Debbie Grohman, clarinet; and Willie LaFavor, piano – in a program that gathers points of light together into a final blaze. Works include Ernesto Cavallini’s Reverie Russe, movements from Maurice Emmanuel’s Sonata op. 11, and Miguel del Aguila’s blazing Seduccion.
May 1: Silenced Composers of Terezin
This special concert features music by composers in the Terezin concentration camp in the Czech Republic during World War II. Featuring Tyler Cassidy-Heacock, soprano; Ryan Reiss, clarinet; Pia Liptak and Patricia van der Sloot, violin; Leah Kettelkamp, viola; Hilda Grace and Jeremy Grace, cello.
May 8: Taste of the World by the Eastman Cello Ensemble
The Eastman Cello Ensemble is a student-based ensemble featuring some of the most promising cello students of the Eastman School of Music. Led by its Artistic Director, Noémie Raymond-Friset, the ensemble is a perfect crucible for its members to create music and explore diverse repertoire.
May 15: fivebyfive modern chamber music
Formed in 2015, the quintet fivebyfive focuses on engaging audiences in the collaborative spirit and creativity of modern chamber music. The program includes Rounder Songs by Patrick Burke and Emily Pinkerton and the world premiere of a new piece by Glenn McClure. Featuring Laura Lentz, flute; Marcy Bacon, clarinet; Sungmin Shin, electric guitar; Eric Polenik, bass; and Haeyeun Jeun, piano, with banjo player/singer Emily Pinkerton.
