Live from Hochstein: The Classical Mandolin, 10/23

The mandolin is often associated with bluegrass, country and folk music, but the classical mandolin is a well-established tradition with a diverse repertoire that goes back centuries. This program features a wide variety of mandolin compositions in different instrumental combinations and time periods.

Enjoy a sampler of classical mandolin with works by Beethoven, Calace, Mozart, Kreisler, Scarlatti, and more, played by Ken Luk, mandolin; Howard Spindler, piano; Joanna Kim, voice; and Bernardo Marcondes Rodrigues, guitar.

You're invited to hear this music on Live from Hochstein on Wednesday, October 23rd at 12:10pm, in person at the Hochstein Performance Hall (50 N. Plymouth Avenue, downtown Rochester) or by listening to the live broadcast on WXXI Classical.

Today’s concert and broadcast is part of Public Radio Music Day, a nationwide celebration that recognizes public radio’s essential community service and its unique role in music discovery. WXXI Classical (FM 91.5), The Route (FM 88.5 in Rochester and 90.1 in Ithaca), and WEOS-FM 89.7 (Finger Lakes region) are proud to be part of a network of stations dedicated to helping listeners discover new artists and music. Our celebration continues tonight from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a special performance by Margaret Explosion at The Little Café (Winthrop Street). To learn more, visit WXXI.org/PRMD.
