Live from Hochstein: Cordancia Chamber Orchestra: Frost and Forest, 4/24

Drawing on the theme of nature, the forest, and winter melting into spring, the chamber orchestra Cordancia performs Deep Forest by American composer Mabel Daniels, who was inspired by the woods at the MacDowell Colony artist retreat in New Hampshire, “Winter” and “Spring” from Las Cuatro Estaciones Porteñas (The Four Seasons of Buenos Aires) by Argentinian composer Astor Piazzolla, and selections from Ravel’s Mother Goose Suite. This concert is led by Evan Meccarello, conductor and artistic director and features violinist Sophia Klin.

You're invited to hear this music on Live from Hochstein on Wednesday, April 24th at 12:10pm, in person at the Hochstein Performance Hall (50 N. Plymouth Avenue, downtown Rochester) or by listening to the live broadcast on WXXI Classical.

Formed in 2009 by violinist Pia Liptak and oboist Kathleen Suher, Cordancia Chamber Orchestra performs classical music concerts throughout the year at various locations in the greater Rochester area. Its award-winning programming blends eclectic, vibrant, and lesser-known music with traditional classical repertoire. The full chamber orchestra consists of up to 40 talented performers who are brought together from many areas of the Rochester community.

Winner of the senior division of Cordancia’s Nico Toscano Young Musician Competition, guest soloist Sophia Klin is a 2023 graduate of the Eastman School of Music. She performs as a violinist around the region with ensembles such as the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, Binghamton Philharmonic Orchestra, Symphoria, and more. She joined the ROCmusic faculty in 2023 as a violin instructor.

Live from Hochstein with host Mona Seghatoleslami is a series of midday concerts by some of the finest artists in our area broadcast live from The Hochstein Performance Hall. Each of these free concerts runs from 12:10-12:50 p.m., giving downtown business people, teachers, families, students, and friends an opportunity to enjoy classical music by outstanding musicians, including soloists, duos, and vocal and chamber ensembles. You can also hear an encore broadcast of Live from Hochstein later the same day at 10 p.m. on WXXI Classical.
