Eastman Saxophone Quartet Wins Gold

The Fischoff Competition is the largest chamber music competition in the country   – more than 100 music groups of 3 to 6 players enter each year. This year, gold prize winners at this prestigious competition were from the Eastman School of Music – The Fuego Quartet.

The Fuego Quartet is soprano saxophone player Nicki Roman , alto saxophonist Erik Elmgren, Harrison Clarke, tenor saxophone, and Gabriel Piqué on baritone saxophone. You can hear some of their story in the audio link above - and watch their prize winning performances from the Fischoff Competition in these videos.

The music you can hear along with the interview is the “Tango Virtuoso” by Thierry Escaish (which they also played right after their interview at WXXI):

Here they are with the lovely “Fanfare/Varations on the Chorale ‘Durch Adams Fall’ by David Maslanka”:

Also check out “Fantasy Etudes” by William Albright and the wild “Speed Metal Organum Blues” by Gregory Wanamaker:

Follow the Fuego Quartet’s further adventures on their Facebook page.
